Marlow Literary Festival – past editions

2023 – WORDS

Marlow residents and visitors to the town enjoyed a day of entertainment, inspiration and creativity at WORDS, Marlow’s first Literary Festival on Saturday, 17th June.

Actor Tom Chambers opened the day, which continued with performances from The Marlow Players, Marlow Operatic Society, JAM Theatre, poet Michael Bourton, writers Francoise Montgomery and Geoff Lambton, and many more. Mary Shelley even put in an appearance in period costume, and Heather Adams led a literary walk around the town. In the evening, audiences were entertained by singing groups Harmony Belles and Downley Descants. There was something for everyone, including activities for children, poetry workshops and readings.

The winners of a local schools’ Flash Fiction competition, run in conjunction with the Festival, were presented with their prizes by Liz Lorente from sponsors Transition Town Marlow. Other sponsors included Marlow Town Council and Marlow Round Table.

2022 – the first edition

Our first Festival was necessarily rather small and free. It was held in the house and grounds of one of our members. On a sunny June afternoon in 2022 around 70 people enjoyed participation, performances and interviews with our members and guest writers.
