About us

Then

The origins of the Marlow Writers’ Society go back to 2012, when a local published poet Liz Everett led a group of aspiring writers in Marlow Library. She would bring a poem and illustration to share and then the group would compose their own interpretations for the next meeting. However, numbers dwindled and then the pandemic came along. Three members: Mary Saunders, Jenny Simnett and Jonathan Slack decided to relaunch the group in the Autumn of 2021 with a poster and social media campaign. This resulted in attracting several new and very talented creative writers including some already published authors.

Now

We now meet at the George and Dragon pub on the first Wednesday of each month from 6.30 pm (and thanks are due to Manager Zenia and her staff for hosting us so well in the Conservatory).

Our meetings are lively and fun as we share our work to inspire and support each other to improve. One of our members Bill Dunn suggested publishing a magazine, which we did. He called it SLACK – for more info, visit our publications page. We are also publishing a Marlow Poets Book. We have held performance workshops and one of our sessions was recorded and is now available as a podcast.

Our Steering Committee comprises:

Jonathan Slack as Chair, Jenny Simnett as Vice Chair and members Mary Saunders, Debbie Farnfield and Susanna Beard.
